Hall, No. 9 BYU crush New Mexico
Provo, UT (Sports Network) - Max Hall threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to Andrew George, as No. 9 BYU knocked off New Mexico, 21-3, at LaVell Edwards Stadium.BYU (6-0, 2-0 Mountain West Conference) has won 16 straight games, the program's longest winning streak since the 1983-85 seasons. The Cougars are off to their best since 2001 and are bowl eligible with six wins on the campaign.
Austin Collie finished with nine receptions for 170 yards and one touchdown for the Cougars, while Hall was 22-of-34 for 273 yards for BYU, which won its 18th straight conference contest.
BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall is 4-0 against the Lobos, his former team, and the Cougars have not lost in Provo since the 2004 season.
New Mexico (3-4, 1-2) got a solid game from running back Rodney Ferguson, who ended with 86 yards on 24 carries. The Lobos' quarterbacks had a tough day as Tate Smith was 5-of-10 for 69 yards and one interception in the loss, while Brad Gruner finished 8-of-12 for 86 yards.
The first half was very conservative by both teams, as BYU entered the locker room with a 7-3 lead. Hall was 9-of-16 for 116 yards and one touchdown, while Ferguson carried the ball 15 times for 71 yards for the Lobos.
There was no scoring in an uneventful first quarter. New Mexico got on the scoreboard first, as James Aho nailed a 27-yard field goal with 11:40 left until halftime.
BYU countered on its next possession. Hall found George with a short completion for a one-yard touchdown to give the Cougars a 7-3 advantage. Harvey Unga carried the ball six times during the 10-play, 95-yard drive, and Hall connected with Collie for a 57-yard pass completion.
The Cougars scored the only points in the third frame. George and Hall hooked up for another score with 6:08 to go in the stanza, extending the BYU lead to 14-3. Hall found Collie for a 30-yard completion earlier in the six-play, 69- yard drive to help set up the touchdown.
With 3:05 left in the game, Collie hauled in an eight-yard pass from Hall in the end zone to make it 21-3 on the scoreboard. Collie's reception wrapped up a 12-play, 77-yard drive that ate up 3:57 of clock.

The Cougars hold an all-time record of 43-14-1 against the Lobos, including a 22-5 record over New Mexico in Provo...Collie has caught eight balls for touchdowns this season...BYU owns a 15-1 record as a ranked team when it plays New Mexico...George had three catches in the game, while Unga rushed for 87 yards.
