The top five remained unchanged, as Texas (8-0), Alabama (8-0), Penn State (9-0), Oklahoma (7-1) and Florida (6-1) are at one through five, respectively. The Nittany Lions took control of the Big Ten after a tough 13-6 victory against Ohio State at the Horseshoe.
Texas Tech (8-0) heads into its showdown with Texas next week at six after a 63-21 beating of Kansas. It marks the Red Raiders highest ranking in the poll in 32 years.
Southern California (6-1) dropped one spot to seven after a close victory at Arizona. Georgia (7-1), which crushed LSU, 52-38, Oklahoma State (7-1) and Utah (8-0) round out the top 10.
Boise State (7-0) remained unbeaten at 11 with a beating of San Jose State, while TCU (8-1) moved up three spots to 12. Ohio State (7-2) dropped to 13 after the aforementioned loss to Penn State, and Missouri sits at 14 after a blanking of Colorado.
LSU (5-2) dropped another four spots to 15, and Florida State (6-1) vaulted eight spots up the rankings to 16 following a home win against Virginia Tech. Brigham Young (7-1), Ball State (8-0) and Tulsa (7-0) rank 17-19, respectively, and Big Ten surprise Minnesota (7-1) climbed five spots to 20 with a win at Purdue.
North Carolina (6-2) reappeared in the rankings after a one-week absence at 21, and Michigan State (7-2) also returned after beating in-state rival Michigan. Oregon (6-2), South Florida (6-2) and Maryland (6-2), which is in the top 25 for the first time this season, round out the remainder of the poll.
Saturday's action features two premier matchups. The top-ranked Longhorns travel to Lubbock to face Graham Harrell and the high-octane offense of Texas Tech, a contest that will have a big impact in the Big 12 standings.
In an SEC battle, the Gators will face Georgia in Jacksonville, as both teams try to avoid a second conference loss.
