Johnson finished with 264 yards passing on 17-of-27 throws with an interception, while Trae Johnson caught three balls for 99 yards for Tulsa (8-0, 5-0 C-USA), which remained one of the eight unbeaten programs in the country.
Freshman Damaris Johnson caught a touchdown and rushed for a score for the Golden Hurricane, who lost to UCF in the Conference-USA championship game last season. Courtney Tennial added two scores on the ground for the victors.
Rob Calabrese tossed for 124 yards on 8-of-15 attempts with two touchdowns to Brian Watters for the Knights (2-5, 1-2), who were outscored 35-0 in the second half in their fifth loss in six games.
Watters recorded 121 yards receiving on seven catches, while Brynn Harvey added 91 yards on the ground on 24 carries in defeat.
Damaris Johnson's 70-yard return on the opening kickoff of the second half set the stage for David Johnson's 10-yard delayed draw to paydirt, giving Tulsa the lead for good at 21-19.
UCF then moved into Tulsa territory, but Calabrese was pressured and fumbled at the Tulsa 32. After converting a 4th-and-13 down to the USF three-yard- line, David Johnson fumbled, but somehow managed to get the ball back after UCF's Johnell Neal coughed up the ball trying to return it.
Tennial's subsequent one-yard TD with roughly six minutes left in the third made it a nine-point game, and Tulsa's 10-play, 80-yard drive later in the frame was capped on David Johnson's two-yard sneak over the goal line.
The lead was extended to 42-19 when Trae Johnson's 44-yard reception set up Damaris Johnson's diving 15-yard grab in the back of the end zone with nine minutes left, and Tennial put icing on the cake by reaching over the goal line from seven yards out at the 1:45 mark.
Calabrese's fumble on his own 48-yard-line midway through the first quarter woke up Tulsa's offense, as Trae Johnson's 26-yard reception was sandwiched between a pair of 11 yard runs from Damaris Johnson, the latter giving the Golden Hurricane a 7-0 lead at the 6:02 mark.
Brennan Marion's 47-yard reception early in the second was followed by Charles Opeseyitan 29-yard TD jaunt up the middle, and Tulsa looked poised to break the game open with a 14-point lead.
But Calabrese found Watters deep down the middle and the receiver out-ran the secondary for a 62-yard score to begin a 19-point UCF run.
Following a 14-yard punt that gave the Knights the ball at the Tulsa 35, Daren Daly got enough behind a 54-yard kick to make it a 14-10 game with five minutes left in the half.
Damaris Johnson fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Calabrese-to-Watters connection struck again three plays later, this time on a seven-yard hookup to push UCF ahead, 17-14.
A safety on the second play of Tulsa's next possession gave the Knights a 19-14 lead at intermission.
Game Notes

They have scored 45-or-more points in all but one game...Opeseyitan led the Tulsa running game with 55 yards on five carries...Tulsa owned a 436-187 advantage in total yards.
