Josh Nesbitt finished with 266 passing yards and a TD on 11-of-14 throws, adding 53 yards on the ground for Georgia Tech (4-1), which has rebounded from a loss to Miami-Florida with consecutive convincing wins.
Jonathan Dwyer led a balanced running attack with 83 yards and a score on 16 carries for the victors.
Anthony Dixon gained 106 yards on 18 carries but was responsible for two of the four lost fumbles for the Bulldogs (2-3). Tyson Lee also coughed up the ball and threw an interception, finishing with 278 yards on 20-of-30 attempts, including a touchdown toss to Chad Bumphis.
Bumphis logged 123 yards on six catches and had a rushing TD for MSU, which has dropped back-to-back games ranked opponents, losing a heartbreaker to LSU last weekend.
Lee fumbled on the third play from scrimmage, and the Yellow Jackets quickly turned it into seven points on Stephen Hill's 24-yard touchdown run.
After MSU's Sean Brauchle missed a 42-yard field goal, GTech marched 75 yards in 11 plays. Two plays after converting a 4th-and-1 from the MSU eight, Dwyer made it 14-0 with a two-yard rush.
Leon Berry got the home crowd into it by returning to ensuing kickoff 89 yards to paydirt. But after MSU forced a punt, Chris Relf coughed up the ball and GTech recovered in enemy territory early in the second quarter.
Roddy Jones' five-yard score following the short field was followed by Bumphis' 10-yard run to paydirt on an end around, cutting the Bulldogs' deficit to 21-14 with 6:09 left in the half.
Thomas' 65-yard catch on the next play from scrimmage set up the visitors at the opposing three, but Dwyer fumbled on the next play.
The momentum change only lasted a few plays, as Dixon fumbled right into the arms of Jerrard Tarrant, who returned it 40 yards the other way.
Brauchle hit a 31-yard field goal just before the half to cut into the 28-14 deficit.
Thomas scored on a 23-yard grab early in the third quarter, and things got worse for the hosts when Dixon fumbled the ball just as he was about to score.
Lee and Bumphis hooked up on a 69-yard catch-and-run five minutes into the fourth quarter, but Hill's 52-yard reception set up Anthony Allen's five-yard TD run to regain the 18-point lead with seven minutes left.
MSU's Christian Ducre' has a four-yard run a little later to account for the final margin.
Game Notes
Dixon's first fumble was the first time he lost the ball in 330 touches, dating back to 2007...Tech has won all four meetings against MSU...The Yellow Jackets play at Florida State next week, while the Bulldogs host Houston.
