McElroy completed 15-of-26 passes for 148 yards in the victory, as Alabama (5-0, 2-0 SEC) reached the 30-point plateau for the fifth time in as many games.
Mike Hartline threw for 168 yards with a touchdown on 17-of-31 passing but was picked off three times for Kentucky (2-2, 0-2), which played its second top- three opponent in as many weeks. The Wildcats dropped a 41-7 decision to No. 1 Florida last week.
Derrick Locke ran for a team-best 75 yards on 20 carries and was Kentucky's leading receiver six catches for 63 yards.
Javier Arenas returned the opening kickoff 60 yards to give Alabama the ball at the Kentucky 37, and three plays later Ingram scored on an 11-yard run for a quick 7-0 lead.
Kentucky's first series ended in an interception that Alabama was unable to convert into points, but Lones Seiber drilled a pair of 49-yard field goals to cap the next two Wildcat possessions, making it a one-point game after 15 minutes.
The Alabama offense went dormant after its opening series and momentum appeared to be on Kentucky's side until the Tide scored a pair of touchdowns in just 19 seconds late in the second quarter to take control.
McElroy engineered a 97-yard drive for the first score, but it nearly didn't get started. Trent Richardson was almost tackled in the end zone on the first play from three-yard line, but he managed to cross the goal line to avoid the safety and the Tide rolled from there.
"Well I think that was the turning point in the game," Alabama coach Nick Saban said of the long drive. "We were having a tough time changing field position. We had a three-and-out that gave them good field position again. I think the defense did an outstanding job a couple times that they got us back down there again."
Alabama converted four third downs during the 13-play set and McElroy connected on 5-of-6 throws to key the drive. He finished it with a three-yard toss to Colin Peek for a touchdown and a 14-6 edge with just 40 seconds left in the half.
On the first play after the ensuing kickoff, Locke caught a short pass from Hartline but had the ball knocked out of his hands. It popped into the air for Courtney Upshaw, who raced 45 yards the other way for a touchdown and a 21-6 lead with 21 seconds to play.
Kentucky's first series of the second half ended with an interception by Rolando McClain, who returned the pick 21 yards to the Wildcat 38. Ingram scored on a 32-yard run soon after to increase the Alabama lead to 28-6.
"We have a lot of weapons on offense," said Ingram. "The more they keep loading the box the more success they are going to have, and if they double team them on the outside we'll be able to run the ball. We are just going to feed off each other."
Eryk Anders then picked off Hartline moments later, giving the Crimson Tide the ball at the Kentucky 47 to set up a 36-yard field goal from Leigh Tiffin.
Hartline was able to keep the ball in his teammates hands on the next Kentucky series and found Randall Cobb for a 45-yard touchdown to make it 31-13, but Alabama followed with a 76-yard drive for another score. McElroy hit Darius Hanks with a seven-yard touchdown pass to cap the 13-play march late in the third.
Alfonso Smith scored on a two-yard run early in the fourth to account for the final margin.
Kentucky, trailing by 18 late in the contest, began calling timeouts. Alabama answered with a fake field goal and made a first down, but a fourth-down pass fell incomplete.
"Turnovers were the key in this game," said Hartline. "I'm sure if we had minimized those then it would have been a closer game."
