Hurricanes crush Florida A&M

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Jacory Harris completed 16-of-24 passes for 217 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, as the 11th-ranked Miami-Florida Hurricanes demolished Florida A&M of the FCS, 48-16, at Land Shark Stadium.

Damien Berry rushed for 162 yards and a TD on 14 carries for the Hurricanes (4-1), who outlasted Oklahoma 21-20 last week. Lee Chambers and Mike James each had a rushing touchdown. Leonard Hankerson had two catches for 42 yards and a touchdown for the victors.

"A good win for us tonight, getting on track with what we have to get done. I think we came out focused this time with what we had to do; get off to the start of the game fast, and the guys did a great job of doing that," Miami head coach Randy Shannon said. "We've still got to get better as a football team, and we've got a long ways to go to get where we want to be as a football program."

Curtis Pulley connected on 10-of-25 passes for 144 yards and an interception for the Rattlers (4-1), who were ranked 22nd in The Sports Network's FCS Top-25 Poll. Pulley also rushed for 81 yards on 17 carries with a TD. Kevin Elliott had three catches for 57 yards in defeat.

The Rattlers drove down the field with ease during the first possession of the game and took a quick 3-0 edge. A 27-yard Adrian Smith reception and a 32-yard Trevor Scott field goal bookended the nine-play, 59-yard drive.

Miami responded in a big way, scoring 31 unanswered points to take control of the game. On their first possession, the Hurricanes put together a six-play, 40-yard drive that ended in five-yard TD pass to Hankerson for a 7-3 lead.

Matt Bosher's 20-yard field goal put Miami ahead 10-3 with 5:34 to play in the first period. After a nice punt return from Travis Benjamin, the Hurricanes put together a four-play, 37-yard scoring drive. Jimmy Graham capped the march with a seven-yard TD reception for a 17-3 margin with 1:19 left.

With about 12 minutes left until half, James scampered into the end zone from six yards out to cap a 75-yard drive for a comfortable 24-3 margin. Chambers' two-yard touchdown run with about six minutes left in the second gave the Hurricanes a 31-3 lead at the half.

Miami held onto a 28-point margin after each team scored 10 points in the third. The Hurricanes scored on Thearon Collier's 61-yard punt return and Bosher's 33-yarder. The Rattlers got their points off a 34-yard Scott field goal and a Pulley 26-yard TD run.

Scott's 21-yard field goal and Berry's 35-yard rushing TD accounted for the final margin.
