Thanks to a 20-6 win over then No. 22 South Carolina, the Crimson Tide (7-0) garnered 39 first-place votes for 1,447 points to move into the top spot of the poll.
The Gators (6-0) remained undefeated on the season, but needed a 27-yard field goal from Caleb Sturgis with nine seconds to play to take a 23-20 win over Arkansas. Florida received 20 first-place votes and 1,434 points.
Florida dropped out of the top spot for the first time since Week 15 of last season. It's Alabama's first time in the top spot since Week 14 of last season.
Texas (6-0) retained its third spot and remained undefeated on the season, but also needed a fourth-quarter field goal to take a 16-13 win over Oklahoma.
USC (5-1) jumped two spots into No. 4 thanks to a 34-27 win over Notre Dame while Cincinnati (6-0) moved up three spots into the fifth spot thanks to a 34-17 win over South Florida on Thursday.
Boise State dropped a spot as the team edged out a 28-21 win over Tulsa on Wednesday, Iowa took a 20-10 win over Wisconsin to take over the seventh position, Miami-Florida and LSU each moved up a spot while TCU leaped two spots to round out the top-10.
Georgia Tech made the biggest move in the poll this week as the team's 28-23 win over Virginia Tech jumped the team eight spots from No. 19 to No. 11. Oregon, which had the week off, and Penn State, which won on Saturday, each moved up a spot. Oklahoma State jumped two places while Virginia Tech dropped 11 spots from No. 4 to No. 15.
Brigham Young moved up two spots with a win while Houston went from No. 23 to No. 17 with a blowout of Tulane. Ohio State matched Virginia Tech as the Buckeyes also fell 11 spots from No. 7 to No. 18 with a loss to Purdue. Utah moved up five spots with a 35-15 rout of UNLV while Pitt jumped into the polls at No. 20 with a 24-17 win against Rutgers on Friday.
Texas Tech moved into the poll at No. 21 as the Red Raiders crushed Nebraska, which was ranked 15th but fell out of the poll, 31-10 at Memorial Stadium. West Virginia got into the rankings with a 24-7 win over Marshall while South Carolina dropped a spot. Kansas fell seven spots to No.24 due to a 34-30 loss to Colorado while Oklahoma occupied the final spot as it dropped five places.
The only game featuring two ranked teams next week sees TCU taking on BYU while Alabama will play its first game at No. 1 at home against Tennessee.
