Taylor completed 12-of-24 passes for 123 yards with three touchdowns and a pick for the Hokies (3-2, 2-0 ACC), who have won three straight games after starting the season 0-2. Taylor also carried the ball 16 times for 121 yards.
Darren Evans rushed for 160 yards and two scores on 15 carries in the victory. Boykin caught two passes for 47 yards, while Andre Smith hauled in a pair of TD passes.
Russell Wilson connected on 21-of-49 passes for 362 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions for the Wolfpack (4-1, 1-1 ACC), who were 4-0 for the first time since opening the 2002 campaign with nine straight victories.
Jarvis Williams caught four passes for 103 yards and a score, while Dean Haynes and George Bryan each caught a TD pass in defeat.
Trailing 27-21, Virginia Tech bridged the third and fourth quarters with an eight-play, 59-yard drive. Taylor rushed for 10 yards on third down to give the visitors a first down at the six-yard line. Taylor found Smith in the middle of the end zone two plays later to give the Hokies their first lead of the game at 28-27.
Following a series of punts, the Wolfpack went back in front. Haynes caught a 23-yard pass on first down to get the ball to the 38 of Virginia Tech. A defensive pass interference call two plays later moved the football to the 23. Josh Czajkowski made a 42-yard field goal for a 30-28 lead with 4:42 to play.
The Hokies fought right back with a touchdown. Faced with a 3rd-and-3 near midfield, Taylor rushed for 12 yards and a fresh set of downs. Two players later, Boykin caught a pass in the middle of the field and broke a few tackles before reaching the end zone. The two-point conversion failed, making it a 34-30 game with 1:27 remaining.
Jayron Hosley then picked off Wilson, and Evans scored from three yards out to seal the victory.
The Wolfpack put together a nine-play, 80-yard drive to start the game. Faced with a 4th-and-1 from the Virginia Tech 26, Wilson rushed for the first down. Bryan caught a seven-yard TD pass just three plays later to make it 7-0.
Taylor was picked off by Brandan Bishop on the Hokies' second possession of the contest. Bishop returned the ball 39 yards to the two-yard line. That led to Haynes's two-yard score for a 14-0 lead with 6:23 left.
Virginia Tech got the ball to the NC State 31, but lost three yards on a pass play. The Hokies were forced to punt the ball away to the Wolfpack, who orchestrated an eight-play, 74 yard drive. Czajkowski capped the march with a 37-yard field goal to make it 17-0 early in the second quarter.
Hosley intercepted Wilson with 8:17 to go until half. Taylor rushed for 71 yards on the first play to get the Hokies into the red zone. Smith's 10- yard TD catch cut the gap to 17-7 with 6:34 remaining.
NC State was about to add points onto the board late in the first half, but Wilson was picked off by Hosley in the end zone.
David Wilson returned the opening kickoff of the second half 92 yards for a Virginia Tech touchdown. The extra point was missed, though, making it a 17-13 contest.
The Wolfpack responded with a six-play, 66-yard drive. Williams kept the drive alive with a 24-yard catch on 3rd-and-17. He then caught a 34-yard pass for a touchdown on the next play to give NC State a 24-13 lead.
Evans recorded a 54-yard score on the ensuing Virginia Tech possession. A successful two-point conversion made it a three-point game. But Czajkowski responded with a 32-yard field goal to give the Wolfpack a 27-21 advantage.
Game Notes
The Hokies lead the series, 26-18-4, and that includes a 38-10 victory in Blacksburg last season...Wilson, who also carried the ball 10 times for 34 yards, threw three touchdown passes for a sixth straight game...Hosley had three interceptions...NC State had 507 yards of total offense, compared to 440 for Virginia Tech.
