Dantonio, who suffered a mild heart attack two weeks ago, was admitted to Sparrow Hospital on Thursday after a routine exam revealed a blood clot in his leg.
"Coach Dantonio is doing well and his prognosis is excellent," said Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis in a statement Saturday morning. "He was admitted to Sparrow Hospital for monitoring and treatment. The cardiologist told Coach D that it was in his best interest to sit out another game and to stay off his feet."
Dantonio was hospitalized hours after Michigan State's thrilling overtime win against Notre Dame on September 18 and underwent a cardiac catheterization procedure, in which a small, metallic stent is used to open a blocked blood vessel leading to the heart.
He missed last Saturday's game against Northern Colorado, watching the contest from his home, and had planned to be in the coaches box for the Wisconsin game.
Offensive coordinator Don Treadwell guided the Spartans in last week's 45-7 win and will do the same again this week. Treadwell was at the helm again for Saturday's league opener against Wisconsin, and the Spartans garnered 444 total yards of offense en route to the 10-point win.
"Oh, I don't know how much [contact] I had but I think at times some of the assistants potentially had some contact with him," Treadwell said. "I don't know if it was amidst in times of a series or at halftime, I don't know all those particulars. He was involved as much as he could be, absolutely."
A date for Dantonio's release from the hospital has not yet been determined.
