Oregon State upends ninth-ranked Arizona
Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) - Ryan Katz racked up 393 yards and two touchdowns on 30-of-42 efficiency, guiding Oregon State to a 29-27 road victory over previously unbeaten No. 9 Arizona.Katz was also picked off once but ran in a TD and distributed the ball to nine receivers, most notably Markus Wheaton, who caught seven passes for 113 yards and a score in OSU's (3-2, 2-0 Pac-10) fifth straight win in Tucson.
James Rodgers, a preseason Biletnikoff Award candidate, also had seven receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown but left the game with a knee injury in the second quarter.
His brother, Jacquizz, added 124 yards from scrimmage and a score for the Beavers, whose only two losses this year came against Boise State and TCU, both currently ranked in the top-five.
Nick Foles completed 35-of-46 passes for 440 yards with three touchdowns and an interception for Arizona (4-1, 1-1), which was trying for its first 5-0 start since the 1998 campaign.
Juron Criner had game-highs of 12 catches and 179 yards with a score for the Wildcats, who received 110 yards from scrimmage and two TDs from Keola Antolin.
"It's kind of frustrating coming off a bye week. We should have been a lot more on top of things. We prepared for them for two weeks," Arizona defensive end Ricky Elmore said. "I don't know if we were just sluggish from the week off, but something needs to change."
The Beavers padded a 23-20 lead with a 10-play, 80-yard march that Jacquizz Rodgers ended on a one-yard run with 5:46 to go in regulation. For the second time in the game, however, Justin Kahut missed the extra point.
Foles then threw four straight incompletions to turn the ball over on downs in his own territory, but the Beavers went backwards with the ball and were forced to punt with just under four minutes to go.
Foles made it interesting by hitting 6-of-7 passes before rushing for 24 yards down the OSU four-yard line. A pair of penalties put the ball at the 12, where Antolin caught a ball in the flat and went in for the score with 1:52 to play.
Arizona had one timeout remaining and was called for a penalty on the ensuing onside kick, helping the visitors hold on for the victory.
Criner's 45-yard score midway through the opening quarter countered James Rodgers' 33-yard TD grab on the game's opening possession.
Kahut added a 23-yard field goal for OSU later in the first to cap a 14-play, 70-yard drive that lasted six minutes.
After Foles was intercepted in the end zone early in the second, Katz rolled out to his right and led Wheaton for a 48-yard bomb at the 9:21 mark.
Katz was also picked off in the end zone with 2 1/2 minutes remaining in the half, and it stayed 17-7 after Arizona's Alex Zendejas missed a 37-yard field goal wide right just before halftime.
Antolin cut into the Wildcats' deficit with a 33-yard jaunt to pay dirt two minutes into the second half, though OSU blocked the extra point.
The Beavers held the ball for the next 5:48, as Katz finished the 65-yard drive with a one-yard plunge, though the point after failed.
Nic Grigsby's 41-yard touchdown catch on a screen with 3:20 left in the third made it a three-point game, 23-20.

Arizona won the yardage battle, 541-486, but OSU held the ball for nearly 36 1/2 minutes...Arizona came in with the rated No. 2 rated defense, allowing 230.8 yards per game...Jacquizz Rodgers logged 83 yards on 25 carries and 41 yards on three receptions...Antolin gained 70 yards on eight carries and caught four passes for 40 yards...The Beavers have won 10 of the last 12 meetings in this series...OSU has won nine of its last 12 Pac-10 games on the road..Arizona plays at Washington St. next Saturday, the same day Oregon State visits Washington.
