Renovations are set to start in January, the paper reported. As part of the pact, UCLA and the Tournament of Roses will extend their leases at the 88- year-old stadium until 2043.
According to the report, the project will develop in three stages over three years and is expected to be finished in time for the 100th Rose Bowl game and the 2014 Bowl Championship Series national title game.
The planned renovations include a widening of tunnels and the addition of aisles to make for easier entering and exiting, as well as the installation of a video board on the north end of the stadium. The paper also said the plans include a modern version of a 1940s-era scoreboard to replace the existing one at the south end of the facility, as well as the expansion of the press box building, which will allow for premium seating to be increased from 600 to 2,500.
According to the report, the financing for the project will come from the sale of $130 million in bonds and contributions from the city of Pasadena, UCLA and the Tournament of Roses.
