Smith completed 17-of-20 passes for 191 yards in addition to 54 yards rushing for the Buckeyes (6-0), who have won 13 in a row. Antonio Pittman ran for 61 yards and two touchdowns and Ted Ginn Jr. added a career-high 10 receptions for 122 yards.
"I thought we did some good things and made some progress in some areas, and then I'm not sure, perhaps in others, but hopefully if we can learn from our video," said Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel.
Anthony Turner tossed for 179 yards on 16-of-24 passing with a touchdown throw for the Falcons (3-3), who came into the game winners in three of their last four.
"If we don't give up the big plays and shoot ourselves in the foot, the sky's the limit for this team," Turner said.
Chris Bullock rushed for 72 yards on 21 carries and Corey Partridge hauled in a touchdown pass in the loss.
Ohio State set the tone early, taking the game's opening drive 64 yards in nine plays to the end zone. Smith was a perfect 5-for-5 throwing on the drive and his short three-yard strike to Rory Nicol in the front of the end zone put the Buckeyes ahead just 3:51 in.
Bowling Green lined up for a 50-yard field goal on its first drive only to see Sean Ellis' kick blocked by Kurt Coleman. Ohio State then took over near midfield and made it 14-0 as Pittman went around the left end for an eight- yard touchdown run on the march's ninth play.
"That is a pretty good football team," Bowling Green head coach Gregg Brandon said of Ohio State. "They have a lot of weapons and they got us today, just like they have gotten everyone else this season."
Early in the second, Turner was intercepted by Vernon Gholston and the Buckeyes moved their lead to 21 on Pittman's second eight-yard touchdown run of the day.
"The guys up front never gave up through all four quarters," Smith said. "Defensively we did a great job."
The Falcons got on the board midway through the third on a drive that started on their own 15. Bowling Green methodically moved the ball up field and on the march's 15th play, Turner hit a crossing Partridge for a 12-yard touchdown pass with 6:21 remaining.
"It was a great drive by our offense to go 80-some yards," Partridge said. "I just stuck out my hand and managed to make the catch."
Ohio State then took over and put together a 7:18 drive that ended when Smith found Ray Small for an 11-yard touchdown hurl less than one minute into the fourth.
The Buckeyes continued to pour it on as Smith hit Ginn for a 57-yard touchdown strike with 12:13 still to play.
Game Notes
Roy Hall made four catches for 50 yards in the win...Dan Macon rushed for 63 yards while Ruben Ruiz made three catches for 37 yards in defeat...Ohio State outgained Bowling Green 387-339...The Buckeyes closed out non-conference play and resume Big 10 action next week against Michigan State.
