Limas Sweed and Jordan Shipley hauled in touchdown passes for the Longhorns (5-1, 2-0 Big 12), who have won four straight.
Selvin Young ran for 60 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries while Jamaal Charles had 65 yards on the ground in the victory.
"Today they lost five turnovers and we lost none and that's why the game got to what it was," said Texas head coach Mack Brown. "Turnovers and kicking game, rushing yards and explosiveness are always critical in a game like this, but today the turnovers were absolutely huge."
Texas has now run off 17 straight victories against Big 12 foes.
Adrian Peterson rushed for 109 yards with a touchdown for the Sooners (3-2, 0-1), who have lost two of their last three games.
Oklahoma quarterback Paul Thompson went 15-of-27 for 209 yards and two interceptions while Juaquin Iglesias hauled in five passes for 69 yards in the loss.
"Unfortunately we had a lot of turnovers and self inflicted wounds that we could not recover from in the second half," said Thompson.
Trailing 10-7 at halftime, the Longhorns scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to take the lead.
Texas went ahead early in the third after McCoy completed a 33-yard TD pass to Sweed, who made an over the shoulder grab along the left sideline and into the end zone with 12:13 remaining in the third quarter to make it 14-10.
The Longhorns extended their lead to 21-10 after putting together an 11-play, 79-yard march down the field that ate up over five minutes of clock. Shipley capped the scoring drive by hauling in a seven-yard touchdown pass in the right corner of the end zone with 2:46 left in the third quarter.
On Oklahoma's ensuing possession, Iglesias fumbled the football at the Longhorns' 15-yard line and Robe Killebrew scooped the ball up for Texas and ran it out to the 40 with 12:28 on the fourth quarter clock.
After failing to cash in on the turnover and punting the ball back to the Sooners, Texas did capitalize off an Oklahoma turnover on the next possession.
Aaron Ross of the Longhorns recovered a fumble deep in Sooners territory and ran it in from three yards out to extend Texas' lead to 28-10 with 10:37 remaining in the contest.
"I'd like to congratulate Texas on an excellent football game and a really heck of a game in the second half," said Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. "They did a great job taking care of the football. We did not. A lot of times you can break a game down a million ways and nothing's ever more important than that."
With 7:24 remaining in the game, Ross intercepted Thompson and then picked off Thompson again with under two minutes left to seal the victory for the Longhorns.
Texas got on the scoreboard first and made it 7-0 after Young ran in from 15 yards out with 7:47 remaining in the opening quarter. The Longhorns went 62 yards on nine plays during the scoring drive.
A 29-yard touchdown run by Peterson with 7:41 left in the second quarter tied the game at 7-7 for the Sooners. The key play on the drive was Thompson connecting with Jermai Gresham for 41 yards.
Garret Hartley drilled a 35-yard field goal with four seconds left in the first half to put Oklahoma up 10-7. The Sooners put together a 63-yard, nine- play drive that lasted 5:30 to put Hartley in field goal range.
Game Notes
