Arkansas' run attack grounds No. 2 Auburn
Auburn, AL (Sports Network) - Darren McFadden and Felix Jones each rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown as unranked Arkansas stunned No. 2 Auburn, 27-10, at Jordan-Hare Stadium.McFadden carried the ball 28 times for 145 yards while Jones had 104 yards on 13 attempts for the Razorbacks (4-1, 3-0 SEC), who have recovered from an embarrassing 50-14 loss to USC in their opener to win four straight games.
"To go on the road and win a game like this against a team the caliber of Auburn, I am really proud of them," said Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt. "We have to build on this and keep going."
Talented freshman quarterback Mitch Mustain connected on 7-of-10 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown while Marcus Monk had a 50-yard touchdown reception for Arkansas.
Brandon Cox had 153 yards passing on 17-of-29 completions for the Tigers (5-1, 3-1), who lost for the first time in four tries against Arkansas. Heisman Trophy hopeful Kenny Irons was held to just 75 yards rushing on 15 carries.
The Razorbacks dominated the opening quarter en route to taking a 10-0 advantage. First, Jeremy Davis booted a 34-yard field goal to put Arkansas on the board. Mustain then found Monk for a 50-yard touchdown.
Monk took advantage of single coverage on the play and used his size to shield the defensive back. After making the catch, Monk shed a poor tackle attempt and waltzed into the end zone.
Auburn finally woke up and went on a marathon 10-play, 90-yard drive. Cox finished things on the opening play of the second quarter when he found Rodgeriqus Smith for 24-yard score.
After the teams exchanged punts, the Razorbacks responded. McFadden broke through the middle of the defense and raced 63 yards to pay dirt. The subsequent extra point gave Arkansas a 17-7 advantage with five minutes to go before intermission.
The Tigers drew to within a touchdown with under two minutes to go before half when John Vaughan connected on a 36-yard field goal.
Arkansas kept the pressure on in the third quarter. After both teams failed on their opening possessions in the frame, the Razorbacks took advantage of good field position to take a two-touchdown edge.
Kody Bliss shanked a punt that gave Arkansas the ball at the Tigers 35-yard line. Reggie Fish then went 28 yards around left tackle to get inside the Auburn 10. Three plays later, Jones went in from a yard out to put the Razorbacks on top, 24-10, with just under five minutes to go in the third quarter.
Davis' second field goal in the game, a 23-yarder in the fourth quarter, accounted for the final margin.
"They beat us to the punch on both sides of the line of scrimmage," said Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville. "Our special teams weren't near as good as they have been, but again, you have to find ways to get it done, especially here at home."

Auburn still holds a 9-6-1 edge in the all-time series with Arkansas...Last season, Auburn rolled to a 34-17 triumph over the Hogs...Arkansas has 356 yards of total offense to just 179 for Auburn.
