The arthroscopic surgery, which repaired the soft tissue surrounding Mauk's throwing shoulder, was performed by Dr. David Martin. Mauk is now on track for a three-month rehabilitation.
"A broken humerus and dislocated shoulder is a rare combination, but Ben is healing faster than anticipated," Martin said. "I was happy with how the surgery went. This will help him rehabilitate both his shoulder and his arm at the same time."
Mauk broke his arm and dislocated his right shoulder in the Deacons' season opener on September 2. The injury occurred in the third quarter as Mauk dove head first to try and recover a fumble. He was removed from the field on a stretcher and underwent an initial surgery the week after the injury to repair and stabilize the arm.
"It was the most courageous thing I have seen out of a quarterback, ever," head coach Jim Grobe said after the game.
The Deacons recovered that fumble and two plays later, kicked the go-ahead field goal. Mauk left the game after he completed 14-of-21 passes for 105 yards and one touchdown.
Redshirt freshman Riley Skinner has filled in at quarterback during Mauk's absence. Wake Forest is 5-1 this season and travels to North Carolina State on Saturday.
