White completed 9-of-14 passes for 156 yards with a touchdown and an interception, while rushing the ball 15 times for 102 yards and a score for the Mountaineers (7-0, 2-0 Big East), who have won 14 straight games dating back to last season and have the second longest winning streak in school history. West Virginia is off to its best start since 1996.
It was a tale of two halves for Steve Slaton, who ran for 113 yards on 10 carries in the second half, totaling 128 yards on 19 rushes for West Virginia, which has a bye week before playing at undefeated Big East foe Louisville on November 2.
The Mountaineers, who were leading the nation with 328.3 rushing yards before the game, ran for 263 yards on the ground versus Connecticut. West Virginia is one of seven teams -- three in the Big East -- that are still undefeated.
Matt Bonislawski went 8-of-20 for 58 yards and an interception and Terry Caulley had 13 carries for 35 yards for the Huskies (3-4, 0-2), who have lost three of their last four games. Caulley also hauled in four catches for 27 yards.
Despite struggling early with its running game, West Virginia got on the board first with an nine-play, 44-yard drive, capped with a 38-yard field goal from Pat McAfee with just under four minutes left in the opening quarter.
The Huskies responded by driving down the field, gaining 52 yards on the ground, and tying the game with a 29-yarder from Tony Ciaravino, who connected on the first attempt of his career.
The Mountaineers came right back and used good field position to regain a three-point lead, 6-3, on a 39-yard kick from McAfee.
After a three-and-out for Connecticut, White ran the next offensive play 45 yards down the middle of the field for a touchdown and a 13-3 lead with 8 1/2 minutes left in the first half.
West Virginia got the ball back with nearly four minutes on the clock in the second and reeled off an 11-play, 74-yard drive, highlighted by Owen Schmitt's one-yard scoring run for a 20-3 margin with 20 seconds remaining before the half.
After McAfee's 40-yarder was partially blocked on the previous drive, he made up for the miss on the next possession with a 48-yard field goal, extending the Mountaineers' lead to 23-3 with under 6 1/2 minutes left in the third stanza.
Less than three minutes later West Virginia continued to pile up the points, as White hit Rayshawn Bolden with a 52-yard TD pass for a 30-3 drubbing.
D.J. Hernandez replaced Bonislawski at the end of the third and got into the West Virginia red zone, but an interception by Vaughn Rivers gave the Mountaineers the ball on their own six early in the final frame.
Donta Moore, though, picked off a White pass and returned it to the West Virginia 25. Eight plays later, Hernandez rushed the ball five yards for a touchdown. After a successful two-point play the Huskies pulled within 30-11 with 7:22 to play.
The Mountaineers countered with a three-play drive, culminating with a 56-yard TD run from Slaton for a 37-11 score with under 5 1/2 minutes remaining.
