Sooners roll past Mizzou

Columbia, MO (Sports Network) - Paul Thompson threw two touchdown passes while also rushing for a score, as the 19th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners handled the 23rd-ranked Missouri Tigers, 26-10, in a Big 12 clash.

Thompson completed 11-of-19 passes for 127 yards and also added 28 yards running for the Sooners (6-2, 3-1 Big 12), who have won three in a row and four of five.

Allen Patrick rushed for 162 yards on 36 carries while Joe Jon Finley and Quentin Chaney both caught TD passes. Oklahoma defeated Missouri for the fourth straight time.

This marked the 11th meeting between the two schools when both were ranked and Oklahoma has won seven straight under those conditions.

Chase Daniel threw for 284 yards on 23-of-44 passing but was intercepted three times for the Tigers (7-2, 3-2), who have lost two of three after beginning the season 6-0.

Daniel also ran for 75 yards and a score, while Chase Coffman made five catches for 57 yards.

The loss snapped an eight-game home winning streak for the Missouri, which was tied for fourth longest in school history.

Missouri struck first as it posted three points on its opening drive. The Tigers faced a 3rd-and-13 early in the march, but Daniel moved the chains with a 17-yard run. Daniel then hit Greg Bracey for a big 46-yard completion, but the drive stalled after that and Jeff Wolfert connected on a 39-yard field goal 3:34 in.

Daniel almost broke the game wide open on the Tigers' next possession, but a wide open Coffman failed to haul in a pass along the right sideline that the sophomore probably would have taken into the end zone.

Daniel was then intercepted by Zach Latimer on his next pass attempt, which was batted at the line, and Thompson capped the ensuing short drive with a three-yard TD run that put the Sooners on top 7-3 with 3:52 to go in the first.

Another Tigers turnover led to seven more points for the Sooners. Just across midfield, Missouri running back Tony Temple fumbled and that led to Finley's 18-yard touchdown catch from Thompson. The scoring play capped a six-play, 58- yard march that bridged the first and second frames.

Missouri had to punt on its next possession and the kick was blocked by the Oklahoma defense, which led to a safety and a 16-3 Sooner edge with 11:52 left in the second.

The Sooners took their opening drive of the third quarter into Missouri territory, but came away with nothing when Patrick fumbled the ball away. Daniel then used his arm and his feet to move the Tigers up the field and found the end zone from 13 yards out on the ground to make it 16-10 with 10:22 to go in the third.

Oklahoma had a response in the form of a 10-play, 80-yard march that saw Thompson hit Chaney in stride on a quick slant pattern for a 15-yard touchdown with 5:02 left in the third quarter.

On Missouri's next drive, Daniel completed a pass to Brad Ekwerekwu that the senior took to the Sooner 11 before fumbling. However, Coffman picked up the loose ball and got his team to the two.

Oklahoma, though, kept the Tigers out of the end zone on four plays, including three run from the one-yard line, to maintain its 23-10 lead.

Garrett Hartley extended the Sooners' lead to 16 with a 30-yard field goal with 3:48 remaining.

Game Notes

Oklahoma leads the all-time series 63-23-5 and have won 16 of the last 17 meetings. Missouri's last win in the series came in 1998...Patrick's 162 yards on the ground gave the Sooners a 100-yard rusher in 14 straight games...Finley finished with two catches for 33 yards while Malcolm Kelly added four catches for 40 yards...One more home win for the Tigers would have tied the second longest streak in school history.
