The touchdown play was the first after a North Carolina turnover and was the longest play of the game for the Demon Deacons (7-1, 3-1 ACC), who scored 10 fourth-quarter points to win their second straight game.
Skinner ended just 7-of-8 passing for 89 yards, while Moore pulled in six receptions for 82 yards. Moore also ran for a 34-yard touchdown for Wake Forest, which secured a winning season with the victory.
Ronnie McGill ran for 117 yards and a touchdown on a career-high tying 29 carries for the Tar Heels (1-7, 0-5), who have dropped five in a row.
The losing streak cost head coach John Bunting his job, as it was announced earlier this week that the coach will not be brought back next season.
Joe Dailey finished 13-of-19 for 156 yards with a touchdown, but his second interception of the day was devastating and cost Carolina a chance at the win.
After starting their final drive at their own 20-yard line with four minutes left, Dailey drove his troops down to the Wake three-yard line. However, after being sacked back to the six-yard line, his next pass attempt was picked off by Jon Abbate in the end zone with 20 seconds left.
Wake totaled just 289 yards of offense with 73 of those yards coming on the two touchdown plays by the offense. Carolina recorded 370 yards of offense but committed three turnovers compared to none for the Demon Deacons.
Wake got on the scoreboard first when Alfonso Smith blocked a UNC punt, picked up the loose ball and ran 16 yards for the touchdown just 3:20 into the contest.
The Tar Heels responded, though, taking their next possession 80 yards for a touchdown of their own. Dailey hit tight end Andre Barbour with a one-yard scoring pass to end the drive that took the clock down to 5:09.
Wake went back ahead on its next drive, as Moore ran 34 yards around the left end for the touchdown. The scoring play ended a nine-play drive that bridged the first two quarters and came with just 19 seconds gone in the quarter.
North Carolina sent the game in half time tied at 14-14 when McGill ran in from one yard out with 6:44 left in the half. The Tar Heels had one more chance to get points on the board in the half, but Dailey was intercepted with a minute left and the ball at the Wake 42.
In the third quarter, Connor Barth put the Tar Heel ahead 17-14 with 7:02 left by hitting a 35-yard field goal.
Sam Swank, though, tied it 46 seconds into the fourth with a 41-yard field goal.
On the fourth play of UNC's ensuing drive, Nick Starcevic fumbled and Josh Gattis recovered, giving Wake the ball with just over 12 minutes to play.
The next play saw Moore haul in the longest play of the game for Wake and give the team the lead with 11:55 left.
Game Notes
Barbour's TD catch was the first reception of his career. This was his first game at tight end after spending time on the offensive line. The move was needed because of injuries to the Carolina tight ends...Wake ended a two-game slide to the Tar Heels.
