Bobby Reid completed 13-of-21 passes for 229 yards to lead the Cowboys (5-3, 2-2) to their second conference victory. He threw two touchdown passes and one interception.
Both teams entered the game following tough loses last weekend.
Zac Taylor threw for 241 yards on 21-of-39 passing with two touchdown passes for Nebraska (6-3, 3-2), which came in tied with Missouri for the Big 12 lead in the North Division and had its sights set on a potential conference championship appearance. Taylor was also sacked four times.
Brandon Jackson had a huge day on the ground, rushing for a career high 182 yards on 21 carries. He gained 123 yards and had two touchdowns on just 12 carries in the first 20 minutes of the contest.
Maurice Purify led all Nebraska receivers with six catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns.
The Cowboys were down by three after the first half, but rode a wave of confidence to put 21 points on the board in the fourth quarter. The defense also did its part by keeping the Nebraska offense in check the rest of the way.
After a scoreless third quarter, Oklahoma State pulled ahead for their first lead of the game. Savage's 20-yard run capped a four play, 76-yard drive that was highlighted by D'Juan Woods' oustanding 55-yard over-the-shoulder catch down the left sideline. Savage ran it in on the next play, giving the Cowboys a 27-23 lead just inside the fourth stanza.
Following a Husker punt, OSU went right back down the field. Keeping the ball on the ground, the Cowboys called eight running plays during a nine-play march. Julius Crosslin went untouched as he carried the ball in from the two, giving the team a 34-23 lead with just over eight minutes remaining.
The Cowboys defense later orchestrated the final score, as Taylor was stripped of the ball by Nathan Peterson. The defensive end recovered the fumble and ran 19 yards to the end zone to give OSU a commanding 18-point lead.
Taylor was erratic the rest of the way, but led the Huskers on a 12-play scoring drive. Purify hauled in a five-yard TD pass with less than a minute remaining to make it 41-29.
Nebraska took control early on, posting three points on their opening drive after OSU went three-and-out following the kickoff. Jackson gained 66 yards on the ground on the Husker's first six plays, including a 24-yard burst that put his team inside the ten. Jordan Congdon then came on to split the uprights, connecting from 26 yards out with the clock at 8:17.
On the Cowboys' next possession, Reid's pass was intercepted by Tierre Green at the Nebraska 34 and returned it 15 yards. Eight plays later Jackson punched it in from the two, putting the Huskers on top 10-0 with 33 seconds left in the first.
Another turnover led to seven more points for the Huskers. Savage rushed to the Nebraska 40 and then fumbled, leading to another Jackson touchdown as the running back rumbled into the end zone from 24 yards out. Congdon's kick failed, putting the score at 16-0 with 10:43 left in the first half.
The Cowboys came storming back, scoring on three of their next four possessions.
Keith Toston hauled in a 16-yard strike from Reid, getting Oklahoma State on the board with the clock at 8:12. The score pulled the Cowboys within eight and capped a five play, 80-yard drive. Jason Ricks' point after was blocked, making it 16-6.
OSU followed with a 50-yard drive for another touchdown. The Cowboys kept it on the ground, using three consecutive runs from Toston before Savage finished things up with an 18-yard rush into the end zone.
Taylor engineered a 78 yard drive for the Huskers, briefly slowing OSU's momentum. The quarterback completed his only two passes of the march for 29 yards and Marlon Lucky carried three times for 26 yards. Taylor then hooked up with Purify on a 22-yard scoring toss to give Nebraska a 10-point cushion.
Oklahoma State was unfazed, following with another touchdown. Darius Bowman's 45-yard touchdown pass from Reid closed out the first half, as the receiver hit paydirt with 15 seconds left on the clock.
"We have been thrown up against the wall in other games," said Reid afterward. "I think today the guys really came together. This win is a turning point for us."
