Jamie Silva had three of BC's six interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, as the Eagles (6-0) continued to shine in Jeff Jagodzinski's first season as head coach. BC, which came into the game with its highest ranking since the final polls of the 1984 season, moved to its best start since 1942. It's only the fifth time in the 107 seasons of football at the school that the Eagles have won their first six games.
"One of the things I threw out to our kids on Wednesday was I said, 'We're going to go out there and pick off three passes and return one of them is going to be for a touchdown.' I told them that again (Friday) night. And darn if Jamie Silva didn't do that by himself," Jagodzinski said. "That was exciting and fun to watch those guys flying around."
Nick Larkin returned an interception for a score for Boston College, which scored 38 consecutive points to extend its home winning streak to 16 games. It's the longest surge at home for the team since capturing 17 in a row between the 1962 and 1965 seasons.
Ryan completed 24-of-32 passes, while Justin Jarvis caught four balls for 102 yards and a score. Andre Callender had two TD catches and a rush into the end zone in the first half alone.
"It's a good start, thats all it is," Ryan said. "We've got half of the season done and it's amazing that the season has flown by. We've put ourselves in exactly the position we want to be in. We haven't lost yet and we've won the games we've needed to win and now we're beginning the third quarter of our season."
Tyler Sheehan went 27-of-43 for 275 yards through the air but was picked off five times for the Falcons (3-2), who had won their previous two games.
Corey Partridge had 12 catches for 100 yards and Freddie Barnes had eight receptions for 112 more and a pair of scores for Bowling Green.
Sheehan's six-yard TD pass to Barnes with 8:55 left in the first half drew the Falcons within 14-10, but it all fell apart from there for Bowling Green.
Callender scored on a four-yard run less than three minutes later, and Silva picked off a pass in the middle of the field and rumbled 65 yards for a TD. That made it two scores in 29 seconds.
Steve Aponavicius' career-long 45-yard field goal extended the margin to 31-10 with three minutes left in the half, and Larkin returned an interception seven yards for a score 48 seconds later.
Ryan connected with Jarvis for a 71-yard TD play less than four minutes into the third, and it became 52-10 on Ryan's scoring pass to Brandon Robinson with 3:25 remaining in the same quarter.
Anthony Glaud threw 32 yards to Barnes for a score on the initial play of the final quarter, but Aponavicius split the uprights from 25 yards away.
Dan Macon's 12-yard TD run capped the scoring.
Bowling Green got a 40-yard field goal from Sinisa Vrvilo for the game's first score, but Callender reached the end zone on a 51-yard pass from Ryan midway through the first quarter.
Ryan's second TD strike to Callender, this one from 14 yards away, moved BC's lead to 14-3 with 11:28 left until halftime.
Game Notes
Boston College plays at Notre Dame next Saturday, while Bowling Green is on the road against Miami-Ohio...Callender had 74 yards rushing and 84 receiving.
