Reesing leads Jayhawks past Bears

Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Todd Reesing threw a pair of touchdown passes as 20th-ranked Kansas pounded Baylor, 58-10, in a Big 12 matchup at Memorial Stadium.

Reesing threw for 186 yards on 14-of-31 passing while Jake Sharp rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown for the Jayhawks (6-0, 2-0 Big 12), who led 31-3 at halftime and cruised the remainder of the contest.

"I think we did pretty well, but we still have a lot of things we can build on," Sharp said. "We are certainly not a finished product. I think the offensive line blocked great and I think Todd (Reesing) was great making his reads and things like that. Brandon (McAnderson), Angus (Quigley) and I were able to read the blocks and make the most of our runs."

Blake Szymanski went 18-of-33 for 119 yards with three interceptions for the Bears (3-4, 0-3), who have lost three straight.

"We've just got to execute our plays or we're not going to get any better," said Baylor head coach Guy Morriss. "All the wishing and the hoping is not going to get it done. You just have to go out and make plays, and we didn't do that today."

The Jayhawks opened the scoring and took a 3-0 lead on a 27-yard field goal by Scott Webb with 8:24 remaining in the first quarter.

Baylor answered with a field goal of its own as Caleb Allen drilled a 25- yarder about four minutes after Kansas got on the board.

It was all Kansas the remainder of the contest and on the ensuing kickoff, Marcus Herford returned the kick 85 yards for a touchdown to give the Jayhawks a 10-3 lead.

Kansas scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a commanding lead into the half.

Early in the second quarter, Reesing found Dezmon Briscoe open in the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown catch to make it 17-3.

With 1:30 remaining in the first half, Sharp scored from four yards out to make it a 21-point game.

Following an interception, the Jayhawks flipped the turnover into points as Brandon McAnderson ripped off a 15-yard rushing touchdown down the left sideline to make it 31-3.

Kansas continued to dominate Baylor and went up 38-3 with 7:26 left in the third quarter as Marcus Henry hauled in a 55-yard touchdown pass from Reesing.

A 34-yard field goal by Webb made it 41-3 with 2:04 left in the third while Baylor finally found the end zone after David Gettis returned the ensuing kickoff 96 yards.

Kansas tacked on 17 points in the fourth quarter to complete the rout.

Game Notes

The start of the game was delayed 1 1/2 hours due to inclement weather. Towards the end of the first quarter, another delay occurred because of high winds and lightning...McAnderson ended with 53 yards on the ground for KU.
