FBS College Football - Week 8 Predictions

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network)

Below is a compilation of The Sports Network's predictions for the top games in Week 8 of the college football season. (Detailed previews for each game can be found by following the "Top 25 scoreboard" link within the FBS college football section of sportsnetwork.com)

(2) South Florida (6-0) at Rutgers (4-2), Thursday, 7:30 pm

This should be a great game, as both teams have similar strengths and weaknesses and each has a lot on the line. USF is playing with a great deal of confidence, but Rutgers has the homefield advantage. It should be a tight contest from start to finish, but expect the Bulls' defense to make the difference when it matters most.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: South Florida 27, Rutgers 24

- Ralph Lauro

(23) Cincinnati (6-1) at Pittsburgh (2-4), Saturday, 12 pm

Cincinnati is simply the better and more experienced team on both sides of the ball, and it should be able to score points off turnovers for the road victory this weekend.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Cincinnati 34, Pittsburgh 20

- Ralph Lauro

(19) Texas (5-2) at Baylor (3-4), Saturday, 12:30 pm

After getting demolished by Kansas last time out, there is no reason to believe that Baylor can knock off Texas. The Longhorns are not one of the best teams in the nation, but they are certainly superior to the Bears.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Texas 37, Baylor 13

- Pat Taggart

(4) Oklahoma (6-1) at Iowa State (1-6), Saturday, 12:30 pm

It isn't difficult to identify the smart pick in this game. Iowa State was demolished on its home field last weekend, and there is no reason to expect anything different this time around.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Oklahoma 51, Iowa State 10

- Pat Taggart

Vanderbilt (3-3) at (6) South Carolina (6-1), Saturday, 12:30 pm

Go with South Carolina in this game, as the Gamecocks are clearly the better team and have the advantage of playing at home. Vanderbilt will put up a fight, but the more talented club will prevail.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: South Carolina 24, Vanderbilt 13

- Pat Taggart

(20) Tennessee (4-2) at Alabama (5-2), Saturday, 12:34 pm

Expect this game to go down to the wire, as the Tide and Vols are evenly matched. Give the edge to the team with the better quarterback, Tennessee, as the Vols should score a narrow victory.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Tennessee 23, Alabama 20

- Pat Taggart

Mississippi State (4-3) at (9) West Virginia (5-1), Saturday, 3:30 pm

West Virginia should have no trouble disposing of Mississippi State. After being contained last weekend, expect Steve Slaton to rip through the Bulldogs on his way to a big day.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: West Virginia 41, Mississippi State 17

- Pat Taggart

(22) Texas Tech (6-1) at (15) Missouri (5-1), Saturday, 3:30 pm

In what should be a wildly entertaining affair between two powerful offensive teams, give the edge to the Tigers, who on the strength of another impressive showing from quarterback Chase Daniel, will give those in attendance reason to hold onto those ticket stubs.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Missouri 49, Texas Tech 45

- Frank Haynes

(10) California (5-1) at U-C-L-A (4-2), Saturday, 3:30 pm

Both teams are a bit beaten up, but the Bruins are in worse shape than the Bears. Expect Cal to control the game on both sides of the ball, as it rebounds with a big road win this weekend.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: California 27, UCLA 13

- Ralph Lauro

Michigan State (5-2) at (1) Ohio State (7-0), Saturday, 3:30 pm

Ohio State may be tested a bit by this Michigan State team, as the power running attack and smart quarterback play will keep things close for the Spartans. Still, it is tough to pick against the nation's top-ranked team at home.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Ohio State 34, Michigan State 20

- Pat Taggart

(14) Florida (4-2) at (8) Kentucky (6-1), Saturday, 3:30 pm

Kentucky is the higher-ranked team in this matchup and has the advantage of playing at home. So why is Florida the smart pick? Well, if for no other reason, it is hard to imagine an Urban Meyer-coached team losing three straight games.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Florida 31, Kentucky 28

- Pat Taggart

(13) U-S-C (5-1) at Notre Dame (1-6), Saturday, 3:30 pm

The Irish lack the talent on either side of the ball this year to beat a team like USC. However, if Mark Sanchez gets the nod for the Trojans, Notre Dame has a chance to ride the crowd's adrenaline and perhaps keep things close for a while.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: USC 31, Notre Dame 13

- Scott Haynes

(15) Kansas (6-0) at Colorado (4-3), Saturday, 5:45 pm

Kansas is on a roll and it should be able to continue its winning ways with another solid performance on both sides of the ball.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Kansas 34, Colorado 24

- Ralph Lauro

(25) Kansas State (4-2) at Oklahoma State (4-3), Saturday, 7:05 pm

Both teams have plenty of momentum heading into this bout. With that, the home crowd should be fired up to see a ranked opponent come to town at the same time the Cowboys are percolating on both sides of the ball. When all is said and done, Kansas State's stay in the Top-25 may be a short one.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Oklahoma State 35, Kansas State 31

- Mike Castiglione

(7) Oregon (5-1) at Washington (2-4), Saturday, 7:30 pm

The Huskies have been vulnerable on defense and that must be reason for real concern for Tyrone Willingham and company this week. The Ducks will move the ball at will in this one and should have no trouble distancing themselves from the hometown team when the final whistle blows.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Oregon 41, Washington 17

- Scott Haynes

(24) Michigan (5-2) at Illinois (5-2), Saturday, 8 pm

With or without Mike Hart this weekend, give a narrow edge to Michigan. This one will come down to quarterback play, and it is a smart move to side with Chad Henne because of his experience and poise.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Michigan 27, Illinois 20

- Pat Taggart

(18) Auburn (5-2) at (5) L-S-U (6-1), Saturday, 9 pm

It is hard to imagine LSU losing a second straight game, so go with the boys from Baton Rouge at home this weekend. Expect the defense to play with a ton of intensity, as Auburn will struggle to score in double figures.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: LSU 23, Auburn 9
