Reesing went 20-for-29 with a touchdown and had seven carries for the Jayhawks (7-0, 3-0 Big 12), who are off to their best start since 1995, when the team also started the season with seven straight wins. Jake Sharp had 15 carries for 53 yards with a touchdown.
"It was a good football game tonight. I'm really proud of our team, I thought that our defense made plays when they had to," said Kansas head coach Mark Mangino. "Our defense stopped the run and forced them to pass. We played good on special teams. Colorado is a good football team. This is a hostile environment and we are pleased to come away with a hard fought win."
Cody Hawkins went 27-for-44 with 287 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Buffaloes (4-4, 2-2), who have dropped two straight after a three-game winning streak.
With Kansas holding a 3-0 lead to start the second half, Colorado started with the ball and took the lead with a 10-play, 80-yard drive to make it a 7-3 game.
The drive was capped off when Hawkins faked a fumble in the backfield to draw the defense in and found Tyson DeVree wide open around the Kansas 10 and DeVree took the ball into the end zone on a 27 yard play with 9:50 left in the third.
However, Kansas quickly answered as the team scored a touchdown on a three- yard run from Sharp just 90 seconds after the Colorado touchdown to grab a 10-7 lead. The team was helped by a 15-yard face mask penalty on Colorado on the kickoff and Marcus Henry's 26-yard reception that set up a 1st-and-goal.
On the Buffaloes' ensuing possession, Justin Thornton intercepted a Hawkins pass at the Colorado 37. However, the Jayhawks had to settle for a 35-yard field goal from Scott Webb for a 13-7 lead with 6:13 to go in the quarter.
Kansas stopped Colorado on the ensuing possession, but were pinned at the six- yard line to start the next drive.
Consecutive rushes from Sharp gave the team some breathing room and an eight- yard reception from Kerry Meier moved the chains. Reesing took the ball on a 17-yard run on 3rd-and-9 and the team converted another third down to get into the Colorado end with a 17-yard catch from Dexton Fields.
Then on 3rd-and-2 at the Colorado four-yard line, Reesing found Derek Fine in the end zone for a 19-7 lead with a little more than 10 minutes to play. The team went for the two-point conversion, but Reesing's run failed.
After exchanging failed drives, Colorado made it a one-possession game as the team marched the ball down quickly and capped it off with a five-yard touchdown pass from Hawkins to Byron Ellis with 3:42 to play.
The Buffaloes stopped the Jayhawks on the next touch, but were in turn stopped and after punting the ball away, Kansas was able to kill the remainder of the clock to hold onto the win.
"We turned the ball over a couple of times there and put our defense at a disadvantage," said Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins. "We have to figure out this turnover thing. Everything becomes new again. It's a question of continuing to iron out things, and make the little things become the big things."
There was little offense in the first half with the only points coming early in the second quarter.
In a seven-play, 57-yard drive that spanned the first and second quarters, Kansas grabbed a 3-0 lead on a 48-yard field goal from Webb 1:18 into the second.
After getting the ball on downs, Colorado drove down the field and got into field goal range. However, Kevin Eberhart's 46-yard attempt was no good with a little over five minutes to play in the half.
