Below is a compilation of The Sports Network's predictions for the top games in Week 10 of the college football season. (Detailed previews for each game can be found by following the "Top 25 scoreboard" link within the FBS college football section of sportsnetwork.com)
(11) Virginia Tech (6-2) at Georgia Tech (5-3), Thursday, 7:30 pm
The Hokies will once again struggle moving the football this week, but will compensate by playing their own brand of shutdown defense. There probably won't be much scoring in this one, but there is more on the line for the visiting team, which needs a victory to remain in the hunt for the conference title.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Virginia Tech 17, Georgia Tech 14
- Scott Haynes
(25) Clemson (6-2) at Duke (1-7), Saturday, 12 pm
While Cullen Harper is enjoying a solid season for Clemson, the formula for a Tigers' victory this year has been simple: control the clock with the run game and keep moving the chains. Under head coach Tommy Bowden, the Tigers are 31-1 when rushing for at least 200 yards. Expect that figure to improve to 32-1 this week.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Clemson 44, Duke 7
- Mike Castiglione
Wisconsin (7-2) at (1) Ohio State (9-0), Saturday, 12 pm
The Badgers are playing well at the moment, but beating up on the likes of Northern Illinois and Indiana isn't exactly the same as taking on the No. 1 team in the land, on its own field no less. The Buckeyes are very good in just about every facet of the game, and as long as they limit their mistakes, they should be able to move to 10-0 with another satisfying win.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Ohio State 24, Wisconsin 14
- Frank Haynes
(21) Wake Forest (6-2) at Virginia (7-2), Saturday, 12 pm
Both teams have a lot on the line this weekend, as neither club can afford another loss if they want to win their respective divisions. Wake, though, has the momentum on its side and with another strong all-around team effort, it should prevail this weekend.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Wake Forest 24, Virginia 20
- Ralph Lauro
Vanderbilt (5-3) at (18) Florida (5-3), Saturday, 12:30 pm
Expect Florida to take out plenty of anger on Vanderbilt, as this weekend's game doesn't figure to be close. Tim Tebow and company will be comfortably ahead by intermission.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Florida 42, Vanderbilt 13
- Pat Taggart
Nebraska (4-5) at (8) Kansas (8-0), Saturday, 12:30 pm
There is no reason to believe that Nebraska will win this game. Pay no attention to the big red "N" on the helmet, as this group of Cornhuskers are failing to live up to tradition.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Kansas 27, Nebraska 14
- Pat Taggart
Troy (6-2) at (10) Georgia (6-2), Saturday, 1 pm
Georgia is the obvious pick in this contest, but don't expect a blowout. The Trojans will put up a fight, as they can score and play defense.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Georgia 27, Troy 17
- Pat Taggart
Tennessee Tech (4-5) at (19) Auburn (6-3), Saturday, 2:30 pm
Auburn is not an explosive offensive team, but the Tigers will have plenty of opportunities to pad their stats this weekend. Don't expect much opposition from the Golden Eagles.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Auburn 49, Tennessee Tech 3
- Pat Taggart
San Jose State (3-5) at (21) Boise State (7-1), Saturday, 3 pm
Having fought their way back into the Top-25, the Broncos could easily be looking past this and the next two games against Utah State and Idaho in anticipation of their regular-season finale versus Hawaii on the road. But even if BSU takes the Spartans lightly, by no means will the team have a close call like they did in 2006.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Boise State 35, San Jose State 20
- Gregg Xenakes
(15) Michigan (7-2) at Michigan State (5-4), Saturday, 3:30 pm
It is hard to pick against Michigan, as the Wolverines are playing inspired football. Expect the Spartans to put up a fight but fall just short once again.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Michigan 27, Michigan State 20
- Pat Taggart
(14) Texas (7-2) at Oklahoma State (5-3), Saturday, 3:30 pm
Expect this game to be close from start to finish. While Texas enters as the ranked team, give a narrow edge to the Cowboys. They should be able to keep running back Jamal Charles in check and score enough points to win.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Oklahoma State 31, Texas 24
- Pat Taggart
Cincinnati (6-2) at (20) South Florida (6-2), Saturday, 3:30 pm
This is a big game for both clubs, as each is in danger of watching a successful campaign turn into a mediocre one. USF has been at its best at home, and behind a strong defensive effort it should be able to come out on top in Tampa this weekend.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: South Florida 27, Cincinnati 14
- Ralph Lauro
UL-Lafayette (1-7) at (24) Tennessee (5-3), Saturday, 4 pm
Clearly, Tennessee does not play good enough defense to be mentioned among the elite teams in the SEC. Still, the Vols will easily move to 6-1 by destroying UL-Lafayette this weekend.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Tennessee 41, UL-Lafayette 9
- Pat Taggart
(3) L-S-U (7-1) at (17) Alabama (6-2), Saturday, 5 pm
Expect this game to be close from start to finish, as Alabama will get a huge lift from the home crowd. The upset is certainly possible, although the Tigers will probably find a way to win once again.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: LSU 24, Alabama 23
- Pat Taggart
(9) Missouri (7-1) at Colorado (5-4), Saturday, 6:30 pm
Missouri is an explosive and dangerous team, but it must be careful not to overlook a Colorado club which defeated Oklahoma on this same field earlier this season. Still, the Tigers simply have too many weapons for the Buffaloes to deal with and they should be able to win the game behind the accurate arm of Chase Daniel.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Missouri 31, Colorado 21
- Ralph Lauro
(6) Arizona State (8-0) at (4) Oregon (7-1), Saturday, 6:45 pm
The Ducks are flying high right now and not even the Sun Devils have enough offense to derail them. Oregon may not score 40+ points in this one, but will do enough to get the win and make things tight atop the Pac-10 standings.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Oregon 27, Arizona State 20
- Scott Haynes
Rutgers (5-3) at (16) Connecticut (7-1), Saturday, 7:15 pm
UConn is not an overpowering team by any means, so expect a close game all the way through. Rutgers has the edge on offense and if it can avoid making costly mistakes, expect the Knights to pull off the upset in this one.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Rutgers 24, Connecticut 17
- Ralph Lauro
(23) South Carolina (6-3) at Arkansas (5-3), Saturday, 8 pm
Go with the home team in this clash, as Arkansas is playing inspired football. With a ton of offensive talent and a vastly underrated defense, the Razorbacks will knock off the struggling Gamecocks.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Arkansas 27, South Carolina 13
- Pat Taggart
Florida State (5-3) at (2) Boston College (8-0), Saturday, 8 pm
Go with the Eagles in this contest, as they have the advantage of playing at home. Florida State has a slew of talent on the roster and may keep things close, but BC will find a way to win once again.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Boston College 27, Florida State 17
- Pat Taggart
Texas A&M (6-3) at (5) Oklahoma (7-1), Saturday, 8 pm
Oklahoma expected to play better against Iowa State, and with two weeks to prepare for this week's contest, expect the Sooners to impress. The home crowd will have plenty to cheer about.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Oklahoma 34, Texas A&M 17
- Pat Taggart
Oregon State (5-3) at (13) U-S-C (6-2), Saturday, 8 pm
It's Homecoming in the Coliseum this weekend and the Trojans will do what is necessary to get back in the win column. Oregon State is dangerous, but if running back Yvenson Bernard is less than 100-percent, or not in the lineup at all, USC should be able to post a convincing win here.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: USC 27, Oregon State 14
- Scott Haynes
