Kelso Sturgeon has been a professional handicapper for 40 years and has a deep understanding of all facets of the game, be it football, basketball, baseball or horse racing. He's worked as a football scout in the SEC and studied under Hall of Fame coaches like Alabama's Bear Bryant, winner of five national titles and Hank Stram of the Kansas City Chiefs, who won the 1970 Super Bowl. He's been a Regional Sports Editor for the Associated Press, worked as a successful jockey agent and authored several books teaching people how to be a handicapper, including the bestseller, THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO SPORTS BETTING. Kelso also understands that to be a successful handicapper means knowing the business of gambling, and to that end he is personal friends with most of the big linesmakers in Las Vegas and gets the daily scoop on what is happening on the other side of the counter. There is no one better qualifed to be your personal handicapper than Kelso Sturgeon.

The four players join 12 other candidates, from the original list announced in August, on the revised list. The Buchanan watch list will undergo one more revision in early November, and the final ballot will be unveiled at the end of the regular season.
The winner of the 14th Buck Buchanan Award, symbolic of the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), will be announced at the annual Sports Network Awards banquet on Dec. 18 in Chattanooga, TN at the Marriott Hotel. The Walter Payton Award, which goes to the top player in FCS, and the Eddie Robinson Award, which is bestowed upon the top coach, will also be awarded on the eve of the NCAA Division I football championship game.
Gerard has established himself as one of the top cover corners in FCS, while playing for a Northern Arizona defense that ranks first nationally against the rush, ninth in scoring (17.2 points per game), 14th in passing efficiency defense and 16th in total defense (299 yards per game). He has helped the Lumberjacks to a 5-1 record and a No. 17 national ranking, with the only loss coming to Arizona State.
The 6-1, 180-pound fifth-year senior from Fountain Valley, CA is tied for ninth in FCS with four pass interceptions and has five pass breakups, despite the fact that opposing offenses seldom challenge him. Gerard also has 18 tackles, one forced fumble and one tackle for loss this season.
A dangerous runner when he intercepts a pass, Gerard has 18 career interceptions for 374 return yards and two touchdowns, and is tied with David Hyland of Morehead State as the active career leader in interceptions. Gerard had six interceptions last season and four each in 2004 and 2005. He played just one game in 2006 due to a broken hand and wrist.
The All-American cornerback was second on the Lumberjacks with 57 tackles last season, including a team-best 34 solo stops. He has 203 tackles in his career, including a single-game best of 11 last year against Appalachian State.
Haywood has been a major reason for the success of the top-ranked James Madison Dukes this season. Picking up much of the slack after the graduation of four-time All-American safety Tony LeZotte, Haywood has led the Dukes with 55 tackles and four interceptions.
He also has 2.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble for a team that ranks 19th nationally in pass efficiency defense and 22nd in total defense, allowing only 312 yards per game.
The 6-0, 190-pound Williamsburg, VA product had 157 tackles in his first three years in the JMU program, and is in his third season as a starter.
Miller has been a major force for a Villanova defense that has tormented opposing offenses all season. Playing defensive end in the sophisticated Wildcat defensive scheme, Miller has helped Villanova rank 17th nationally in rushing defense (91 yards) and 26th in total defense (322 yards).
The 6-3, 250-pound senior from Willow Grove, PA is among the national leaders in tackles for loss (third with 10.5) and sacks (tied for ninth with 4.5). He also has 30 tackles, 21 solo stops and a pair of forced fumbles.
In a 26-20 victory over No. 1-ranked Richmond earlier this season, Miller sparkled with eight tackles, 5.5 of them being tackles for loss, with three sacks.
Considered one of the top NFL prospects among defensive linemen in FCS, Miller had 74 career tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries heading into his senior year.
Williams has blossomed into one of the top linebackers in FCS this fall, averaging an NCAA-best 15 tackles per game. He has 105 tackles, including eight for 38 yards of losses, 3.5 sacks, two passes defended, one forced fumble and one quarterback hurry.
Williams had a career-high 23 tackles in a 42-23 loss to Illinois State earlier this season, and has been in double figures in five of seven games.
The 6-1, 225-pound senior from Murray, KY led the Ohio Valley Conference and was seventh nationally with an average of 11.1 tackles per game in 2006 and a total of 100. Williams was the Racers' leading tackler as a sophomore and first- time starter in 2005, logging 103 stops, including 72 solo tackles.
Williams recorded seven tackles in last year's season-opener against Louisville before suffering a season-ending injury - the second time in his Murray State career he has missed a season.
Gerard, Haywood, Miller and Williams join 12 other players on the Buchanan watch list: linebacker Bobby Abare of Yale, strong safety Colt Anderson of Montana, defensive end Jovan Belcher of Maine, linebacker Bobby Daly of Montana State, linebacker Zach East of Prairie View, defensive tackle John Faletoese of UC Davis, linebacker Cyrus Mulitalo of Sacramento State, defensive end Greg Peach of Eastern Washington, linebacker Andy Romans of Lafayette, linebacker Andy Schantz of Portland State, free safety Lardarius Webb of Nicholls State and linebacker Jason Williams of Western Illinois.
