Hudgins, Heath and Farnham named national players of the week

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Terrell Hudgins of Elon, T.J. Heath of Jacksonville State and Buddy Farnham of Brown have been named The Sports Network's FCS national players of the week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Terrell Hudgins, Elon, Senior, 6-3, 235, Wide Receiver, Rocky Mount, N.C.

Hudgins broke Jacquay Nunnaly's NCAA Division I record for career receptions with his third catch of the day and finished with 16 catches for 209 yards and a one-yard touchdown catch in Elon's 19-12 Southern Conference victory at Furman on Saturday. Six of Hudgins' catches for 69 yards came in the fourth quarter of a tight, defensive struggle with the Paladins. He had a 36-yard grab to set up his fourth-quarter touchdown. Hudgins is now just 327 yards shy of breaking Jerry Rice's Division I record for receiving yards.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

T.J. Heath, Jacksonville State, Junior, 6-1, 170, Cornerback, Alexandria, AL.

Heath started Jacksonville State towards a 52-7 victory Saturday at home against Tennessee-Martin when he returned two of his three interceptions for touchdowns to give the Gamecocks a quick 14-0 lead after six minutes. He picked off a Cade Thompson pass on the fourth play from scrimmage and raced 26 yards for the first touchdown and then added a 55-yard interception return eight plays after that to give the Gamecocks a 14-0 lead before they had even run an offensive play and setting a school Division I record. Heath added a third interception in the fourth period. He also added three tackles and a pass breakup.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Buddy Farnham, Brown, Senior, 6-0, 185 Receiver/Returnman, Andover, MA.

Farnham turned in a huge performance on a rain-soaked field for Brown in its 28-20 victory at home over Rhode Island in the annual Governor's Cup game. Farnham had 274 all-purpose yards, including four punt returns for 97 yards. That was the third best performance in Brown history. One of the returns for 67 yards set up a Bear touchdown. Farnham also returned three kickoffs for 77 yards and grabbed five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. His 32-yard TD catch from quarterback Kyle Newhall answered an early first-quarter touchdown from Rhode Island to get Brown back into the game.
