New Hampshire at No. 1 for fourth straight week

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - After a wild, 52-49, victory at Delaware, New Hampshire maintains its status as the No. 1 team in The Sports Network I-AA top 25 for the fourth week in a row. The Wildcats picked up 81 of a possible 103 first-place votes and 2,552 points to earn the No. 1 position again. The Wildcats will face a tough test to stay at the top spot when No. 7 Richmond visits on Saturday.

Appalachian State is right behind the Wildcats for the fourth consecutive week. The Mountaineers defeated Elon, 45-21, to move to 4-1 for the season. They picked up 21 first-place votes and 2,457 points to stay within striking distance of the top spot. Furman and Montana both posted road victories and maintain their position at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively, while Cal Poly holds on at No. 5 after an 18-14 win against Southern Utah.

No. 6 Illinois State, No. 7 Richmond, and No. 8 Youngstown State land in the same position. After a 55-3 win against Indiana State, Southern Illinois vaulted past Massachusetts and into the No. 9 position, with the idle Minutemen dropping one slot to No. 10.

No. 11 North Dakota State and No. 12 Hampton hold their spots after posting road wins. James Madison is up two pegs to No. 13 after a 45-7 victory against VMI, while Northern Iowa and Portland State each fell one rung to No. 14 and No. 15, respectively, after close losses.

UC Davis is at No. 16, followed by Towson at No. 17, Delaware at No. 18, Harvard at No. 19 and Eastern Illinois at No. 20.

The final five positions are all occupied by new entrants, though three teams are returning to the poll after falling out earlier in the year. No. 21 Georgia Southern, No. 23 Central Connecticut State and No. 24 Alabama A & M are back in the rankings, while No. 22 Tennessee-Martin and No. 25 San Diego make their debuts. The Skyhawks and Toreros are both in the rankings for the first time in school history. McNeese State, Western Illinois, Albany, Western Carolina and Northern Arizona all fell out of the rankings, with the Cowboys dropping out from No. 16 after losing to South Dakota State, 20-17.

All 25 teams will be in action this weekend, with three games between ranked teams. No. 1 New Hampshire hosts No. 7 Richmond, No. 5 Cal Poly is at home against No. 16 UC Davis, and No. 11 North Dakota State travels to No. 21 Georgia Southern.
