NEC and PFL announce changes to Gridiron Classic
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The Northeast Conference and Pioneer Football League have announced changes to the newly-created Gridiron Classic, including the date and selection process.The Gridiron Classic is an exempted postseason contest that matches the NEC and PFL champions. The game was originally scheduled for November 18 at the location of the Northeast champion, but will instead shift to December 2.
This will allow either league's regular-season champion to play in the I-AA Football Championship as an at-large participant if the opportunity arises.
Both conferences also agreed that if that situation should occur, with either regular-season champion participating in the championship game, that the second-place team for that conference would instead play in the Gridiron Classic.
