SWAC staggers suspensions from Southern-UAPB brawl
Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday it will honor Southern's and Arkansas-Pine Bluff's requests to stagger each team's suspensions after a post-game brawl on Oct. 17.The league also removed the suspension from Southern linebacker Corry Roy. After further review, the conference confirmed he was not involved in the incident.
Of the total suspended players, which now stands at 40, eight were given two- game suspensions that will be served immediately. Southern has 15 total suspensions, with three players receiving two games. UAPB has 25 suspensions, with five of the two-game variety.
The SWAC staggered the suspensions over the next three games using an alphabetical listing of the players as a random determining factor. The suspensions will be served as followed:
Southern
Oct. 29 vs. Alcorn State: Jamie Payton, Lamarkius Pettaway, Byron Williams, Terrell Alex, Anthony Balancier, Daniel Brown and Lee Doss.
Nov. 5 at Texas Southern: Jamie Payton, Lamarkius Pettaway, Byron Williams, LaQuinton Evans, Kenneth Hill Jr., Levi Jackson and Kaelan Mayfield.
Nov. 12 at Alabama State: Jaleel Richardson, Marlon Smith, William Waddel and Franchot West.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Oct. 29 vs. Grambling State: Dezmond Beverly, Devontaa Bryant, Stephen Jones, Lyron McClenney, Chukwaso Oputa, Justin Billings, Joe Dalton, Cordara Frazier, Mose Frazier, Brandon Fulton, Kendrick Gray and Jherron Harris.
