Toreros remain No. 1 in Mid-Major poll
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - San Diego's 59-19 Pioneer League victory over previously No. 2-ranked Drake on Saturday night helped the Toreros remain as the unanimous choice of voters in the Sports Network FCS Mid-Major poll on Monday.The Toreros (6-0) received all 30 votes to stay a unanimous No. 1 for the third straight week. San Diego jumped out to a 38-0 halftime lead and held Drake scoreless until the fourth quarter.
Drake (5-2) slipped to fourth in this week's poll, behind No. 2 Dayton (6-1) and No. 3 Central Connecticut State (4-2). Dayton advanced one place in the poll following a 38-28 victory over Davidson, while CCSU rose by two positions.
CCSU edged Drake for the third spot by one point after beating Robert Morris 16-10 in a Northeast Conference game on Saturday.
Wagner (5-1) soared from eighth to fifth in the poll as a result of the Seahawks' 45-16 thrashing of defending NEC champion Monmouth.
Albany (3-3) gained one place from seventh to sixth with a 38-7 win over Sacred Heart, while Duquesne (4-2) used a 24-17 victory over St. Francis to vault from ninth to seventh.
Iona (5-2) dropped two places to eighth following the Gaels' 49-21 defeat at then-No. 13 New Hampshire.
Morehead State (4-2) plummeted five positions from fourth to ninth, due to a 34-24 PFL loss to Jacksonville. Robert Morris (3-4) remained at No. 10 despite its loss.
The Sports Network FCS Mid-Major Top 10 poll includes the 20 programs of the MAAC, NEC, and Pioneer Leagues, which play at a non-scholarship or limited scholarship level. An updated poll, which is based on the votes of selected media members and FCS mid-major Sports Information Directors, is announced each Monday during the regular season.
