FCS players of the week awarded to Roehl, Green and Elder

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Delaware State defensive back Akeem Green, North Dakota State running back Tyler Roehl and Davidson kicker Cody Elder were selected Monday as national players of the week by the Sports Network.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tyler Roehl, North Dakota State, Junior, RB, 5-10, 230, West Fargo, N.D.

Roehl sparked North Dakota State to its second win this year over an FBS school, running 22 times for 263 yards and a touchdown in the Bison's 27-21 road victory over Minnesota. After Minnesota had a 7-0 lead just 62 seconds into the game, Roehl helped the Bison tie the score with a 77-yard scoring run just 1:35 later. He then became a force throughout the rest of the day as North Dakota State piled up 27 first downs, 394 yards on the ground and 585 yards of total offense. Roehl's play was particularly crucial in the fourth quarter when the Bison were trying to protect a six-point lead.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Akeem Green, Delaware State, Senior, DB, 5-9, 170, Philadelphia, Pa.

Green turned the game around for Delaware State against Morgan State, scoring the go-ahead touchdown on a 107-yard fumble recovery and return in a 25-17 homecoming victory. The win enabled the Hornets to remain tied with Norfolk State for the MEAC lead. Trailing 17-16, DSU appeared to be on the ropes with Morgan State threatening to go up by eight points with less than 10 minutes remaining. But Morgan State running back Courtney Anderson was stripped of the ball just short of the goal line and Green scooped it up seven yards deep in the end zone. Green then raced up the sidelines to put the Hornets ahead 22-17 with 9:11 left on the fourth quarter clock. Green also was tied for third on the Hornets defensively with six tackles, three of them solo stops.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cody Elder, Davidson, Senior, Place Kicker, 5-9, 160, Charlotte, N.C.

Elder booted a game-winning 20-yard field goal with 1:24 remaining to lead Davidson to a 24-21 Pioneer Football League upset of Mid-Major No. 4 ranked Drake. Elder also had a 37-yard field goal in the second period and had five punts for 199 yards and a 39.8 average. One of Elder's punt went 46 yards and three of his efforts were downed inside the 20-yard, backing up the Drake offense. Elder's kicking on punts and kickoffs also helped Davidson set an NCAA record with three safeties in the first quarter.
