SUNDAY NFL PRESEASON WEEK 3 PREVIEWS
Gonna get to see both QB Philip Rivers and TE Antonio Gates here for the Lightnin' Bolts after both sat it out in last Friday's 19-3 yawn-fest win against 2-point road favorite Arizona … but all eyes continue to be on second-year RB Melvin Gordon (six carries for just 18 yards last week) as he could be diff-maker as to whether SD has a winning season or not.
Current Line: Vikings (- 4.5) and 41.5 points
Houston Football - College and NFL
CAN HOUSTON COUGARS WIN 10 GAMES AGAIN?The Houston Cougars were one of the feel-good stories in college football last season. They started 10-0 and finished 13-1, capping it off with a Peach Bowl win over Florida State. Greg Ward, a terrific dual-threat quarterback is back in the fold and there's every reason to expect 2016 to bring more winning to Houston. But just how much and is there any money to be made?Let's begin by eliminating two propositions. As nice as the Houston story might be and as attractive as 50-1 to win a national championship looks, the odds of the Cougars even making the Playoff are not that good. Even if they upset Oklahoma on September 3, the rest of the schedule is non-Power 5 and the fact that Houston was never even in the discussion for the Playoff last year - even at 10-0 - shows how much the deck is stacked against teams from non-power conferences. On the other end of the spectrum, we can also eliminate Houston as a (+110) proposition to win a second straight American Athletic Conference title. Not that the Cougars are a bad straight-up pick to do so, but that's an awfully short price for a league race that won't be settled until a conference championship game in December. Anyone who believes in the Coogs that firmly can make more money just betting them week-to-week.
QB Rodgers leads TD drive as Packers defeat 49ers

Cal tops Hawaii to kick off season
Senior quarterback Davis Webb passed for four touchdowns and rushed for one in his California debut and junior receiver Chad Hansen had the best game of his career as the Golden Bears rolled to a 51-31 nonconference victory over Hawaii in college football's season opener at Sydney, Australia, on Saturday afternoon.
