#10 NOTRE DAME at TEXAS - 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC
Guess we're heading back to those Joe Montana QB controversy days of the 1970s 'cause it sure looks like this year's ND Fighting Irish team could have quarterback issues dogging 'em all year long.

Lefty Malik Zaire and last year's star DeShone Kizer are expected to share snaps here against a Texas defense that last year ranked 104th versus the rush, 70th against the pass - now let's see who's better in key third-and-long plays here.

Meanwhile, Texas is expected to go with true freshman QB Shane Buechele over oft-ineffective veteran Tyrone Swoopes. The 'Horns have revenge after getting ripped 38-3 in South Bend in last year's season opener for both squads.

Spread Notes - Notre Dame is just 20-21 ATS (against the spread) away in the Brian Kelly Era that began back in 2010 and did you know the Fighting Irish is 24-36-4 spreadwise as betting favorites while dating back to the 2009 campaign? On the flip side, Texas is just 12-12-1 versus the vig under third-year head coach Charlie Strong and the Longhorns are a composite 10-14-1 ATS as hosts since late 2011.

The NFL '16 season is right around the bend and here's some Week 1 line Las Vegas line news:

No shock that Minnesota dropped from a 3.5-point road favorite to just minus 1 at Tennessee following the season-ending knee injury to QB Teddy Bridgewater and don't be surprised if Minny's the game-time underdog if the Vikes can't upgrade its quarterback spot in the next couple of days;

Meanwhile, the other NFC North road favorite for Week 1 - that's the Green Bay Packers - are listed as a 4.5-point choice in Jacksonville and let us remind you the Jags have failed to cover their last three consecutive season-opening games. Is this price "too low" - you might see G-Bay up to 6 points or so in the coming days providing we hear WR Jordy Nelson will play;

And, finally, what about next Sunday Night's game between the Tom Brady-less New England Patriots at the Arizona Cardinals? The Las Vegas price tag here says the Redbirds are 5.5-point favorites - it's bounced back and forth from 5.5 to 6 points for the past week or so - but does anyone really know how good (or maybe not good) QB Jimmy Garoppolo is for the Pats? Just for a little pointspread history, New England registered a solid 9-6 ATS mark after Brady was hurt and done for the year in a Game 1 non-cover win against Kansas City in 2008 and so that Pats team fared A-OK spreadwise without the future Hall of Fame signal-caller. .
