Paying Attention And Making Big Bucks On Teams Most Bettors Completely Overlook

By Kelso Sturgeon

There are many-maybe most-football bettors who do not pay attention to the ever-changing landscape of both college and NFL football. That is a bad habit that makes you overlook teams that are unexpectedly winning and covering the spread. For instance who at the beginning of the season figured the Kentucky Wildcats would be 5-0 straight up (SU) and 4-1 against the spread (ATS) and would have already defeated three of elite Southeastern Conference powers Florida, Mississippi State and South Carolina?

Kentucky has been more than a little impressive this season but still finds itself a 5.5-point underdog at Texas A&M Saturday. Even bookmakers aren't paying attention.
Who would have thought UCLA would open the season 0-4 SU and 1-3 ATS and this weekend is staring at 0-5 as a 21-point home underdog against #10 Washington. The all-at-once hapless Bruins have been outscored by an average of 20.8 points per game. What about the even more hapless Nebraska Cornhuskers who are 4-0 SU and ATS and are also headed for 0-5 as a 17.5-point underdog at #16 Wisconsin.

It's a new season the much has changed since 2017. Still bettors remain in the dark because the live in the past and have their opinions supported by media analysis from pundits who are as dumb as a turnip. For instance, almost to the man, Colorado was said to be bound for the bottom this season but stands 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS. The same cloud was hung on Washington State which was supposedly in dire straits but stands 4-1 SU and 5-0 ATS.

What about Syracuse which obviously has returned to a spot among the powerful? The Orange opened 4-0 before losing last week at #2 Clemson, 27-23 on a last-minute TD.

We are also witnessing the decline and fall of former powers Louisville and Florida State and the rise of such teams as Central Florida, which dating back to the 2017 season Is 17-0 SU and 12-4 ATS.  Certainly a strong a meal ticket for bettors, yet people would rather bet on Clemson which is 5-0 SU and 1-4 ATS this season. North Texas (4-1, 3-2) is also on the rise and Utah State has again found itself.

Some people think I'm nuts to handicap every single game on the schedule-a waste of time, they say. Well two weeks ago I wasted my time into a 100-unit win with North Texas (-11) which crushed Liberty by 40 points, 47-7. Just so you know, I will continue to waste my time.

If you are going to beat this game you must pay attention. Factors that can produce winners and losers can change from week to week. I have listed below the 10 most underrated teams in college football and because of this they might jump up and beat anybody. PAY ATTENTION.

BEST BET OF THE DAY
15 Units - Fresno State Bulldogs (3-1) -14 by 24-27 over NEVADA WOLFPACK (3-2)-Fresno State, which suffered its only loss of the season at Minnesota, 21-14, has dramatically superior talent and probably will catch Nevada without starting senior QB Ty Gangi who is doubtful because of a leg injury suffered last week in a 28-24 win at Air Force. This is the 49th meeting between these Mountain West schools, with Fresno leading the series, 28-20-1. The game will be televised on ESPNU with kickoff set for 10:30 EDT.

UPSET OF THE DAY
10 Units - Kentucky Wildcats (5-0) +5.5 by 12-13 over TEXAS A&M AGGIES (3-2)-I am assuming Texas A&M has in the eyes of bookmakers earned being the favorite here off a 28-26 home loss to Clemson in the second game of the season. To me the figure is bogus and the Aggies are about to run into a real hornet's nest. Kentucky is already 3-0 in SEC play, winning at Florida, 27-16 as a 2-touchdown underdog and in its last two games burying Mississippi State, 28-7, as a 10-point underdog and just last week pistol-whipping South Carolina, 24-10, in a pick'em affair. The Wildcats have their best team in years, are quick, fast, extremely physical and can beat you in the air or on the ground. No question in my mind they should be the favorite in this one. The game will be televised on ESPN with the kickoff set for 7:00 EDT.

ADDITIONAL BEST BETS - All 5-Unit Plays

Buffalo Bulls (4-1) -7.5 by 14-17 over CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS (1-4)-Buffalo is in major bounce-back form off a stunning, 42-13, home loss to Army last week and should be primed to bury a weak Central Michigan team that has beaten only I-AA Maine, 17-7. It is of note the Chippewas average just 16 points per game while giving up 25.2. This game will be televised on the CBS College Sports Network with kickoff set for 12:00 Noon EDT.

Tulane Green Wave (2-3) +7 by 3-4 over CINCINNATI BEARCATS (5-0)-I made a major score with Tulane last week with its 40-24 win over Memphis as a 14.5 underdog. I have said all season the Green Wave had the potential to a decent team and they just proved it. Credit the success against Memphis to an aggressive offensive line and the awakening of QB Jonathan Banks who kept the Tigers back on their heels all night. Tulane faces one of the best defenses in the country-one that is giving up a national second-best 12.2 points per game. Still, my figures say Tulane wins it outright. This game will be televised on ESPNU with kickoff set for 12:00 noon EDT.

AIR FORCE FALCONS (1-3) plus 3.5 by 6-7 over Navy Midshipmen (2-2)-Both service academy teams are going through rebuilding seasons but they will come to win, play their best, and get a leg up to capture the Commander-In-Chief. Navy, which avoids the pass like the plague (it threw just 17 passes during the entire 2017 season) leads the nation in rushing average at 355.8 yards per game but has no edge over the Falcons team that has beaten only I-AA Stony Brook this season. Air Force has suffered its three losses at FAU, 33-27, at Utah State, 42-32, and at home to Nevada, 28-24, and with a break or two could have won them all. It also is of note both starting quarterbacks are coming off concussions but will play. This one kicks off at 3:30 EDT and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network

BEST BET OF THE DAY
15 Units Tennessee Titans (3-1) -5 by 12-13 over BUFFALO BILLS (1-3)-Both teams are offensively challenged (the Titans average just 18.8 points and 312.2 yards of offense per game while Buffalo checks in at 12.5 and 230.8) but the difference is Tennessee wins and Buffalo does not. I expect the Titans to again grind it out and get it done.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (1-3) -4 by 9-10 over Arizona Cardinals (0-4)-The Cardinals average 9.2 points per game, a bit below what it takes to win in the NFL. I rest my case.
